ABSTRACT

On January 15, 2009, my husband texted me “Turn 2 CNN. Plane down NYC.” Immediately, my heart fell. New York City and planes incites negative connotation. Fortunately, there was no imminent national crisis; terrorism was not to blame. US Airways Flight A320, Charlotte, N.C. bound, struck a flock of birds during takeoff from LaGuardia Airport, and minutes later, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger safely landed the jetliner and all 155 passengers in the Hudson River. Globally, traditional media began reporting the “miracle on the Hudson.” Electronically, social media coverage grew exponentially.
