In his wonderfully angry yet funny book Gobbledygook (see Bibliography), Don Watson makes the important point that, if we use words to seek truth, preserving
the clarity and straightforwardness of language is vital: by holding the simple
belief that truth is worth preserving we are compelled to respect language.
