ABSTRACT
COMPOSITION OF JURIES Juries are used mainly in criminal proceedings. They are used in trials for indictable offences, and (usually) when an adult is charged with a triable either way offence, he can elect to be tried by jury. A jury is only rarely used in civil proceedings. The Administration of Justice Act 1933 limited its use to cases such as libel and fraud.
