ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses how ‘individual family’ or household models of agrarian and land reform affect women's status and autonomy. It attempts a general overview of how processes of agrarian reform impact upon gender relations among agricultural smallholders. Land and agrarian reforms can take place either with redistribution to individual households or families or else can be collective in nature. The majority of reforms, especially land reforms limited in scope, redistribute land to households as units.
