ABSTRACT

Multinational enterprises, as private entities, differ in obvious respects from the institutions examined in previous chapters, which are comprised of member States. Indeed, readers may question whether multinational enterprises belong in a book examining the application of international law. Regardless of their nongovernmental character, the central role played by multinational enterprises in the global economic sphere is beyond doubt. Corporations are the drivers of international trade and economic activity, upon which the livelihoods of many millions of people depend.
