Belle van Zuylen was a talented writer and music composer of the 18th century. She made an important contribution to women’s emancipation with her avant-garde ideas about women’s role in society. She was acutely conscious of the importance of women’s education. She herself profited from high quality education and contributed, particularly through her writings, to the education of women.
