ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will present the case of a suicidal young woman who killed her baby and was treated in a high security hospital over many years. Patients seen in this type of setting have been violent physically to others, and to themselves, and have a phenomenal capacity to be violent to their own and others' minds. They are considered to be high homicide and/or suicide risks, First, I will provide some background details about working psychoanalytically in secure hospital settings with very ill detained patients. Second, I will offer my attempts to work psychoanalytically with a very disturbed young woman.
