ABSTRACT

Uncertainty is a major part of our lives that can affect how and when we communicate. Sometimes you are unsure about relatively small things (e.g., “Is rain or sunshine most likely today?”). Uncertainty about the weather might influence your decision about what you will wear or whether you will plan an outdoor activity. You often can deal easily with uncertainties of this type: You can ask your roommate if she knows about the weather forecast; you can go directly to sources of weather information, by turning on your television to The Weather Channel or by checking its Internet Website; or you can simply look outside to try to guess what the weather will be like. Soon you are likely to have enough information to decide what to wear or whether to plan a picnic.
