ABSTRACT
Since the time of the Vikings, reputation has been of great concern to Norwegians. The following stanza from The Poetic Edda illustrates this concern (1996):
Cattle die, kinsmen die the self must also die; I know one thing that never dies: the reputation of each dead man.
