ABSTRACT

There is currently a push in the UK for teachers to acquire Masters level qualifications in order to make teaching a Masters level profession (see Introduction). This means that more geography teachers may now consider undertaking post-graduate research and a dissertation as part of Masters level studies. For many teachers this may be the first time they undertake research at this level or into a practical professional activity like teaching. The main aim of this chapter is to offer some inspiration and a starting point for geography teachers considering undertaking a dissertation or research at this level. The aims of this chapter are:

• to reflect on the value of undertaking research, particularly a dissertation, both personally and professionally.
