ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on two fundamental research design questions that are relevant to any tourism study hoping to implement advanced tracking technologies. The questions are: (1) Which tracking method is the most suitable for a specifi c planned research project, depending on the spatial and temporal scales of the study and (2) What are the different possible locations for distribution and collection of the tracking devices. The process of answering these questions in a systematic way will illuminate other issues related to the implementation of tracking technologies for tourism research.
