ABSTRACT

A ll broadcasters in the UK work within a framework of legal and regulatory constraints designed to uphold the existing law of the country, ensure levels of taste and decency, and prevent a concentration of ownership that it is

believed would lead to a reduction in the range of available viewpoints. The purpose of this chapter is not to provide an exhaustive account of the laws and regulations governing radio, but to summarise the main areas of law that impinge on the dayto-day routines of programme making, some of which have already been discussed in other chapters, and outline the regulations for the medium.
