ABSTRACT

For several of the major donor countries, relations with developing countries are complex and multifaceted. Not so for Sweden. With no colonial history, there has been no painful process of transforming colonial links into relations between independent nations. Sweden’s long-standing foreign policy of non-alignment implies that there is little need to secure geopolitical advantage in poor countries. Besides, with an import pattern almost exclusively directed towards rich countries, Swedish trade policy does not appear greatly to affect the destiny of low-income nations.
