ABSTRACT

Most students I know stay awake all night for a variety of reasons I am not going to

discuss here. But as they near the end of their courses, the thought of getting a job

is instant insomnia. That peculiar mix of hyper-excitement at the thought of finally

getting out there and the paranoia and black depression of ‘aah, what am I going

to do?’ is invigorating yet daunting. Students love being students; the lifestyle,

the experimentation and above all the learning process are fondly remembered

forever. I have been there, but more importantly, so have most of the people you will

ultimately work with and be interviewed by. That thought provides a glimmer of

hope. Advertising agencies are notorious among students and graduates for not

replying to letters, phone calls or emails. Somehow, though, advertising people are

sympathetic towards new talent struggling for its first break. That is because for

many it is an all too recent memory – don’t forget that. Your struggle is not unique,

the recipients of your pleas for work have gone through much the same.
