ABSTRACT

Few events so characterize the change from the old world order to the new as the demise of the Arab-Israeli conflict. As the twentieth century draws to a close, and the new, post-Cold War era takes hold, the wars of Arab and the Jew - so prominent a feature in the latter half of the outgoing century and of the Cold War - have finally come to an end as well. Admittedly, a full, comprehensive peace in the Middle East has not, at the time of writing, been ushered in. But the Arab-Israeli peace process has passed the point of no return. Whatever happens, there will be no going back to the status quo ante, to the old days of tension and war.
