ABSTRACT
Introduction International actors and factors influenced the dynamics and outcome of the Maoist insurgency significantly. The objective of this chapter is to analyze the dynamics of external engagement in Nepal’s armed conflict and draw general conclusions that provide lessons for the future. There is extensive documentation of internal coordinates and determinants of the armed conflict in Nepal (see Introduction to this volume) but analyses on external engagement are rare. This chapter will analyze the external dimension of the Maoist armed conflict. The chapter attempts to answer the following questions:
• What was the nature and extent of external engagement during Nepal’s armed conflict?
