ABSTRACT

Brock University, a mid-size Canadian university, has during most of its 44-year history had an unofficial internationalization mandate. From its inception, Brock hoped to achieve this by teaching courses with international content and by accepting fee-paying international students. With the advent of globalization, this passive approach was replaced by a mission statement designed, amongst other things, to develop students to become global citizens. Hence, student exchanges and experiential learning programmes became the engines for driving this change.
