ABSTRACT

One of the benefits of teaching at a Christian college is that there can be open discussion about issues of spirituality. Even though many professors who teach at the college do not see themselves as Christian, they are usually open to students raising concerns about God in the classroom. Although he does not teach at a religious institution, Professor Dennis Rader sees conversations about God as an important teaching tool. He explains:

Most of my students have a resonance with the concept of God. When classes begin I usually tell the students I see them as a gift from God. I tell them that their task is to unwrap the gift and my job as a teacher is to help you unwrap the present that is the gift of yourself.
