By the end of 1920, two dreams long cherished by American women had been achieved: national alcohol prohibition and women's suffrage. For years, many women had believed that these changes would usher in an era of unprecedented social progress building on and expanding the reforms won during the Progressive Era. The reality was less Utopian.
