ABSTRACT

Current research would suggest that there is a crisis occurring at the moment in relation to the development of early language among children in the UK. It is estimated that approximately 66 per cent of children have speech, language and communication needs (SLCNs). Moreover, it has been noted that the highest incidence of SLCNs among infants and toddlers is located in areas of social disadvantage and within families of low socio-economic status (SES) (Bercow 2008; I CAN 2007).
