ABSTRACT

What is intuition? The generally held definition is the ability to understand or know something immediately, without conscious reasoning. The word originally comes from the Latin word intue¯rı¯, meaning simply ‘to look at’. Over the years, the word and the meaning developed into the Middle English word ‘intuicioun’, meaning ‘insight’ or ‘to see within’, which has a closer connection with our modern understanding of the word. However, later in this chapter I will highlight that insight and intuition are not necessarily the same thing.
