Physical activity, exercise and sport are all terms used comfortably in the lay arena that can be more problematic in academic and professional settings. Whereas the use of the term exercise implies a health-focused activity, the term sport has no such implications. Clearly agreed defi nitions of these terms are relevant for the promotion of lifestyle change. Physical activity can be defi ned as:
