ABSTRACT
Because the topic of this essay is the legal regulation of holy sites, it will deal only indirectly with issues related to the religious and social aspects of holiness. The essay raises some general definitional questions and focuses specifically on legal structures that define and regulate sacred space in Israel and within the Palestinian Authority (PA).
