ABSTRACT
The success of an individual in acquiring another language is influenced by a number of factors: the learner’s age, sex, aptitude, motivation for learning the language, personality (which includes the learner’s attitude toward taking risks as well as the learner’s self-confidence and self-esteem), and degree of comfort with the learning environment and culture. In addition, it is influenced by the opportunities the learner has for communication and the linguistic input available.
