ABSTRACT
In the space of one week, seven very different photographs were brought to the attention of the British public:
• For 24 hours it was mistakenly hoped that a snapshot taken on a digital camera by a tourist (and widely reproduced in the mass media) just might show a three-year-old girl who had been missing for over a month since disappearing on a family holiday.
