ABSTRACT
A more recent and popular phenomenon has been the evolution of mechanisms aimed at ensuring specific treaty obligations are promoted and protected by each contracting State. These treaty mechanisms are specific to each treaty and the relevant bodies do not enjoy the general power to investigate human rights violations of the principal (charter) bodies discussed in Chapter 5. Many of these treaty bodies permit individuals of consenting states to bring complaints directly against the State.
