ABSTRACT

International human rights are indivisible, inalienable and universal. Accordingly, everyone should contribute towards their development. Only Art 29 of the Universal Declaration alludes to duties of individuals. So far the role of international and regional institutions and treaty monitoring bodies have been discussed. Chapter 7 on National Human Rights Institutions reviews the nature of international human rights. In spite of these developments, still human rights are not enjoyed by everyone everywhere. This chapter therefore takes the discussion further, looking at the involvement of non-State actors in building a culture of respect and promotion of human rights.
