ABSTRACT

In the previous two chapters we discussed a total of 12 (eight plus four) cockpit schools. In this chapter and the one that follows we will discuss ten (four plus six) schools that have a more social-scientific orientation. In Chapter 4, I said that this second group of schools does not try to think or organize the snake pits away like the first group. Things are less about how the world should be – the prescriptive aspect – and more about simply how the world is, including its less pleasant sides.
