ABSTRACT
By focusing on students’ thoughts about school policies and practices and the effects of racism and other kinds of discrimination on their education, the article explores what characteristics of these students’ specific experiences helped them remain and succeed in school, despite the obstacles. In essence, these are lessons from students because they illustrate that students need to be included in the dialogue in order for school reform efforts to be successful.
