In this unit, we will begin by simulating experiences related to the connection between language and culture that is the focus of this textbook. Read each of the following scenarios and imagine the speakers and the situations that they are in. What is the speaker trying to convey, and how does the listener interpret the message? What would you say in each situation? How would others interpret your message?
