ABSTRACT
The Bible is religious or theological literature. Ancient Israel certainly had writings of a non-religious character, and the early church must have produced ‘secular’ letters and other documents; but the Bible contains only a selection of the religious writings of both. To summarize the themes of the Bible is therefore to engage all the time with theological issues. We begin with the character of God as communicated in the Bible.
