ABSTRACT

As therapists we look for problems and spend a lot of time working out where and how things have gone wrong for our clients. We are perhaps less likely to help our clients look for their strengths and ®nd out what is going right for them. Within TA, the psychotherapy ®eld of application is focused on healing and change, whereas the counselling ®eld of application is more focused on strengths and resources (see EATA Training and Examinations Handbook, 2008, Section ®ve). I believe that TA therapists can learn from this positive approach. As part of our goal to facilitate change, promote healing, engagement with life, and the ®nding of meaning we can draw upon theories and methods that seek to promote positive engagement and selfactualization.
