ABSTRACT
School personnel typically highlight their discipline regulations in policies called codes of conduct. Discipline codes of conduct are documents that contain the schoolwide discipline procedures that students must follow. The focus of this chapter is on discipline codes of conduct because they are thewrittenmeans bywhich sanctionedbehaviors are communicated to students, parents, and the larger school community. Codes of conduct are generally distributed to school staff, students, and parents at the beginning of the school year. Discipline codes of conduct are often used by deans of students or those with the responsibility for addressing discipline in the school after a student commits an infraction.
