ABSTRACT

Towards the end of the Pans operation, a vessel, thought to be No. 293 on the list of suspects and presumably the ship sought earlier by D.1’s force, was reported aground off Naharia, north of Acre. Chevron was sent to investigate. She had landed about 500 immigrants on the Palestine coast at midday. This vessel is now known to have been the Archimedes, which had embarked 537 illegal immigrants at Bari and may not have been included in the Intelligence schedules of arrivals. She had crept down the Lebanese coast and beached herself just after passing the border with Palestine. A boarding party found her empty and abandoned; the police later rounded some of her erstwhile passengers up.
