ABSTRACT

This section highlights some of the tests most widely used in assessing the physical ability groups.

The standardized laboratory tests that have been applied in gymnastics include maximal oxygen uptake protocols for upper and lower body, force-velocity tests and Wingate tests. These are widely accepted, valid and reliable tests in sport science, often considered to be the gold standard for assessing aerobic and anaerobic metabolisms. Results of such tests performed by male and female gymnasts of different levels are presented in Section 1.3.
