ABSTRACT
The Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) was a Loyalist terrorist movement in Northern Ireland. Though tracing its historical inspiration to its predecessor movement of 1912, the UVF as we currently know it was established in 1966. Until the recent peace process, the UVF waged a campaign of violence across Northern Ireland. The operational domain of the UVF extended primarily to east Antrim, Belfast (the Protestant Shankill Road area in particular – home to most of the Loyalist paramilitaries) and areas of County Armagh. The primary goal of the UVF was to uphold the union of Northern Ireland with Great Britain (i.e. the United Kingdom).
