ABSTRACT
The purpose of the regional and European scenarios is to envision alternative futures that may be possible, plausible, probable or desirable. The scenarios are descriptions and analyses of imaginable courses in the Green Heart (the Netherlands), Northwest UK (abbreviated to NW-UK) and Venice (Italy) and for Europe as a whole, covering the time-span of 2000-2050. The scenarios present different contrasting possibilities for the future over the next half century. These scenarios are not intended to be predictions of the future, nor is any one considered more likely to occur than the others. The set does not capture all potential futures, but it does cover a wide range of possibilities. The scenarios bring to the surface underlying themes, as well as perennial human questions of society, politics and equity.
