ABSTRACT

Chapter Five continues the description of the three industries under study with a presentation of the Lining industry. This industry differs from the Front-loader industry in a number of ways. Change over time is different between the two industries, as is the context of competition prevalent during the 1980s. Competition during the 1980s in the Front-loader industry was identified as first being symmetric-passive, changing then to symmetric-active, whereas the competition in the Lining industry, presented in this chapter, can be determined as being asymmetric-active. By including a study of the Lining industry in this book, further aspects of the nature and dynamics of competition can be ascertained.
