ABSTRACT

For many years MS-DOS was the operating system that was most frequently used for the implementation of psychological tests and experiments. These applications often include time critical (or real-time) elements such as, for example, reaction-time measurements. Although MS-DOS was not especially designed as a real-time system, it performs very well in this kind of application. This is mainly due to the very simple architecture of this operating system that allows the programmer to establish complete control over the computer and all its peripherals (Tibosch, 1986).
