ABSTRACT

The pulsation of musical ideas often prompts a modern composer to share his reflections on music. Of exceptional importance for understanding the art of sounds are, for instance, the six volumes of Stockhausen’s Texts, books and articles written by Boulez, Nono, Ligeti and Messiaen. Though the creation of even the most innovative music can proceed without logical apprehension and formulation of the appropriate new concepts and terms, nevertheless the vision of a striking difference between forms of modern music and the failure to understand it on the part of most musicologists evoke a wish in composers to get engaged in their description and theoretical substantiation.
