ABSTRACT

Like most people I had seen the Punch and Judy during my childhood and, apart from one or two shows, they didn’t mean a great deal to me. I had also seen several marionette shows performed in small picture-frame stage. These performances were generally circus and variety shows that, once again, meant little. Involvement in circus and variety performances as an artiste meant that there seemed little point in making puppets do what human performers could do better.
