ABSTRACT

The game theoretic literature discussed in this section is presented and surveyed in more detail in Friedman [57] and Tirole [133]. Other relevant surveys that discuss the industrial organizations applications of this literature, are Shapiro [122] and Fudenberg and Tirole [61]. The model of reputation in this section was applied to monetary policy for the first time by Barro and Gordon [23]. Reputation with imperfect monitoring in this monetary policy model is studied in Canzoneri [33]. Rogoff [116] surveys the literature on reputation in monetary policy and extensively discusses the multiplicity problem. Chari and Kehoe [36] and Chari, Prescott and Kehoe [37] point out that policy games are typically anonymous, and further discuss the notion of sequential rationality in such games.
