ABSTRACT

Ms X, a young Tamil woman from the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka, began helping the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) because of what she saw as oppression by the Sri Lankan army. She was never involved in fighting, but participated in fund raising, cooking, first aid, and making sandbags. As a result her name was listed on an LTTE noticeboard, and when the army recaptured the area she was arrested.
