ABSTRACT

In this chapter, following on from the discussion of gender and the changing university in chapter 2, I explore in more detail how the legal academic has been approached within the literature on the ‘private life’ of the law school. I do so via an interrogation of the relationship between social class and the legal academy. Fiona Cownie has observed, in her 2004 book Legal Academics:

In considering the lived experience of legal academia [class] is a factor which is too important to be overlooked.2
