ABSTRACT

Lucretia Rudolph was born on April 19, 1832, in Garrettsville, a village near Hiram, in Portage County, Ohio, a rural corner of the New Englandinfluenced Western Reserve district. Her mother, Arabella Mason Rudolph, was from Vermont and her father, Zebulon Rudolph, a well-to-do farmer and carpenter, was born in Virginia of German descent. They were pious, kindly, but undemonstrative parents, not given to outward displays of affection.
