ABSTRACT
Mamie Geneva Doud was born on November 14, 1896, in Boone, Iowa, the second child of John Sheldon Doud and Elvira Mathilde Carlson Doud. She had an older sister, Eleanor, and two younger sisters, Ida Mae and Mabel Frances. The Douds were a prosperous family, and they provided Mamie and her sisters with a privileged upbringing.
