ABSTRACT

The primary prevention of disease is the ultimate goal of any clinician. Is this feasible for colorectal cancer? The answer must logically be yes. Why? Because it is a condition that is occurring with a rapidly rising incidence in countries that have adopted both the negative as well as the positive features of the lifestyle and diet of the westernized world. Preventing these negative aspects from happening and even reversing this trend is the first goal. This is true especially in those areas of Asia, the Mediterranean countries, and Europe where this was not a public health problem until recently (see Chapters 2 and 4).
