ABSTRACT

Using linkage analysis of 23 extended breast cancer families with 146 affected individuals, inherited susceptibility to breast cancer among families with an early age of diagnosis (45 years) was mapped to chromosome 17q21 in a region close to the VNTR (variable number tandem repeat) genetic marker D17S74. Genetic analysis yielded a LOD (logarithm of the likelihood of ratio for linkage) score of 5.98 for linkage of breast cancer susceptibility among families with an early age of breast cancer diagnosis. A negative LOD score was calculated when families with a late age of breast cancer diagnosis.
