The antitumor effect of antioestrogen ICI46474 (tamoxifen) in the DMBA-induced rat mammary carcinoma model

In this paper, Jordan was able to demonstrate that tamoxifen treatment of rats previously exposed to dimethylbenzanthracene (DMBA, a carcinogen that induced hormone-dependent breast cancers with a high degree of regularity), could prevent or delay the appearance of tumors. The effect required the continuous presence of tamoxifen begun shortly after the carcinogenic event.
