ABSTRACT
About 5% of gliomas are familial,8 most not belonging to the recognized syndromes. A few familial disorders that predispose to astrocytoma are discussed in Chapter 12. Astrocytomas occasionally complicate neurofibromatosis-1 and neurofibromatosis-2, the Li-Fraumeni syndrome and Turcot’s syndrome. A specific type of astrocytoma, the subependymal giant cell astrocytoma, complicates tuberous sclerosis.
